HCMC – Knauf Vietnam has inaugurated a gypsum board manufacturing plant in Dinh Vu Industrial Zone in the northern city of Haiphong after two years of construction.

German Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier attended the opening ceremony of the Knauf Vietnam factory on Sunday.

The 30 million euro facility is one of the biggest foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the city. Covering some 63,000 square meters, it is expected to annually produce 12 million square meters of gypsum boards and 15 million linear meters of metal profiles.

David Thomas, general director of Knauf, was quoted by the Vietnam News Agency as saying the company has two new distributors in Vietnam.

Haiphong took the lead in FDI attraction in the country in the first nine months of this year, with US$2.7 billion in FDI pledged, five times higher than the same period last year and beating the full-year target by over 42%. The city looks to total FDI approvals of more than US$3 billion this year.
